Stage 1 - Geelong to Ballarat

2014Stage1c

The racing begins in earnest today with the first road stage, a relatively short but punchy 116 kilometre stage from Geelong to Ballarat.  The race rolls off Cunningham Pier and heads through Geelong.  Past pastoral land and vineyards, the tour travels through Anakie and alongside the natural beauty of the Brisbane Ranges.  The first real challenge isn't too far away with the Glenmore Hill, a steep tough climb appearing almost out of nowhere.

The pace will be on as the peloton then scrambles to regather as it approaches Ballarat.  The rolling hills around Mount Egerton and Yendon will keep the pressure on all the way towards Ballarat.  The course then heads north as we head North towards the centre of Ballarat.  With a finish in the Heart of Ballarat awaiting them, this Goldfields town will be delivering a golden victory to one lucky rider.  The stage winner is sure to be greeted by a large crowd eagerly waiting to see who takes victory and the Yellow Jersey.
